Our Thinking: Clever signs

As you may or may not be aware, I have a penchant for collecting stupid signs.

Last year, I found a lot of stupid signs. I found stupid signs on my commute, in my city, travelling overseas and in different cities around the world. It seems nowhere is immune from signage that is pointless, confusing, or simply poorly thought out.

This year, I’ve collected even more stupid signs.

Am I frustrated that stupid signage still pervades every arena of our public lives? Yes.

Do I have hope that things are starting to change in the world of signage for the better? Also, yes.

So, instead of only roasting the exasperating side of signage, I wanted to give a pinch of love to some spaces and places giving signage a little bit more thought.

To those considering user pain points and integrating solutions to them into signage design, I say ‘thank you’!

To those who understand that wayfinding can be functional as well as beautiful, we say ‘welcome to the fold’.

And finally, to those who understand that it’s ok to have a sense of humour, in some cases good signage is a bit of pun and games.
