The New Royal Adelaide Hospital is one of Australia’s most technologically advanced healthcare facilities. With 800 beds, 40 operating theatres, healing gardens and community retail precincts, this $2.1 billion hospital was designed around the emotional and physical needs of the patients.

Through intensive collaboration with the architects, interior designers, artists, health planners and landscape architects, ID LAB developed a wayfinding system that uses visual cues from the environment itself. Natural light, use of colour, artwork, floor and ceiling treatments and landscaping help people navigate intuitively through the facility.

ID LAB was also part of the collaborative group that developed the hospital’s digital information kiosks that are located at strategic points throughout the facility. The touch screen kiosks not only provide wayfinding information, but allow the user to print out specific information, ensuring a simple, stress-free journey.
