North Richmond Community Health

North Richmond Community Health Centre (NRCH) provides health, medical and social services to the North Richmond community of inner city Melbourne.  ID LAB collaborated with Lyons Architects on this project and designed a signage system based on the architectural language of the dynamic building and needs of the diverse community that the facility caters for.

Using routered plywood panels for most of the signage hardware was both practical and functional. The demographics of NRCH’s clients called for a wayfinding and information system that worked for a large culturally and linguistically diverse group, many of whom had complex care needs.  The wayfinding solution includes specially designed pictogram storyboards that inform non-English speakers of intricate instructions. These pictograms were extensively tested with the users before being implemented.
