Named after the first woman to be elected to an Australian Parliament, Edith Cowan University (ECU) comprises 20,000 students spread across three campuses in Western Australia.

ID LAB conducted comprehensive audits of the three campuses and engaged in workshops to understand existing processes and the navigational issues. A wayfinding strategy was then developed to address the individual needs of visitors, staff and students across the multiple sites.  An extensive family of signage, graphics and maps were designed to stand out within the unique environments, whilst fitting the overall brand identity of the university and architectural styles. The distinct colours for each campus reference the Indigenous land in which each campus is situated and create a landmark tool for each site.

To ensure that ECU’s investment in a new wayfinding system would give the highest return, ID LAB developed tools to enable the university to manage the implementation and maintenance of the system over the next ten years.
